About the role
We are looking for a Cook (Kaitautoko) – Early Learning Centre to join us at our (Whare Amai Puna Reo) on a permanent, part time (20 hours per week) basis based in Gisborne.
As our Cook , you will play a vital role in ensuring that our Tamariki receive nutritious, well-balanced meals that support their growth and development. You will be responsible for planning and preparing morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea, following food safety regulations, and maintaining a clean and organised kitchen.
At times, you may be required to provide additional support on the floor to maintain staff-to-child ratios and ensure a safe and engaging learning environment.
About you – You'll have:
A Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 3) or related field.
A Food Safety Certificate.
A sound understanding of nutritional needs for Tamariki ages 3 months to 5 years old.
The ability to cook 30-50 child portion meals and snacks daily.
Knowledge of the Food Act 2014 and National Programme 2.
A Full NZ Drivers' License (Class 1).
A sound understanding of te reo Maori phrases, mihi and greetings, and Maori values, culture, and tikanga, would be advantageous.
This role is classified as a Core Worker and will need to pass a safety check under the Children's Act 2014.
The ability to lift, bend and stand for long periods of time.
As a kaupapa Maori organisation, your willingness to participate in cultural activities and develop an understanding of Ahuatanga Maori (values, culture and tikanga) is desirable.
