Korero mo te turanga - About the role
A highly sought after position has become vacant due to promotion for a specialist Psycho-Geriatrician (Psychiatrist of Old Age) working for the Mental Health Service for Older People (MHSOP) at Te Whatu Ora Taranaki.
Psychogeriatric experience preferred but would consider a qualified psychiatrist wanting to pursue old age training. Also willing to consider stage 3 trainees in old age psychiatry wanting to complete their training here and stay for an SMO role. This is a four day per week role however interest in full time work will definitely be considered.
The MHSOP team has a strong focus on community care but also has access to four beds within the acute mental health inpatient area. The team provides specialist assessment and treatment outpatient clinics as well as home-based and residential care-based interventions.
You will join a wider team of 14 psychiatrists among the other arms of the mental health service, working alongside a dedicated team of medical, nursing and allied health staff.
As part of the MHAS service, you will be expected to:
Provide consultant services to people requiring specialist care.
Interact daily with other departments.
Mentor junior medical staff attached to the service.
Have the ability to work in a range of settings i.e. inpatient, outpatient and community settings inclusive of crisis work.
Cover for colleagues in their absence.
Participate in an on-call 1:10 roster.
