Job OverviewPermanent, full-time position and Fixed-term, full-time position available (1.0 FTE)Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, Te Tai TokerauWhangarei, NorthlandThe Mental Health and Addiction Services in Northland are seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Psychiatry of Older Persons Service (POPS). There is both a permanent, full-time position and a fixed-term, full-time position (fixed-term until April 2024) available. We would also consider applications for part-time work.The Psychiatric Service for Older People is a community-based mental health team providing services primarily to the population 65 years and older throughout Northland. This role is based in Whangarei but may also include travel to rural clinics.Te Whatu Ora – Te Tai Tokerau (formerly Northland District Health Board) provides public health services across the Northland region, from north of Wellsford to Cape Reinga serving a growing population of 190,000. Whangarei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three rural hospitals in Kaitaia; Kawakawa, and Dargaville.Te Whatu Ora - Te Tai Tokerau is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Maori as Tangata Whenua as the highest priority.As well as a warm climate, the "winterless north" offers excellent schools; affordable housing and scenic coastal areas offering a range of recreational activities. We are just a two hours' drive or 25-minute flight from the international hub of Auckland.Minimum Requirements: To be considered you must have or be eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in either a vocational or locum tenens – special purpose Psychiatry scope of practice. FRANZCP and/or postgraduate qualifications are advantageous; however, we are happy to hear from those near completion of their studies. If you are currently overseas/not yet registered, we can assist you with the application process to obtain MCNZ registration.
