Whangarei Hospital, Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau Full-time, permanent position (1.0 FTE) Northland, New Zealand General Surgery - Colorectal This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant General Surgeon to join our team of eight General Surgeons, each with a subspecialist interest. We are looking for a General Surgeon with a colorectal subspecialty interest. The successful candidate will take part in a 1:8 on call roster with registrar and house officer support. We are looking for someone with post fellowship experience that can bring proven knowledge of modern skills and techniques within colorectal surgery. They will be a team player with the ability to adapt and work well with our multi-disciplinary departments across the hospital. Our general surgery team provides core surgical services from Whangarei Hospital, along with outpatient services at three regional hospitals located in Kaitaia, Kawakawa, and Dargaville. Some operating sessions are also provided at Kaitaia hospital on a rotational basis. Our General Surgeons are multi-skilled, and the development of a special interest is supported, and ongoing education is encouraged. Multi-disciplinary meetings are held weekly with all specialties being involved, which allows for a close collegial working environment. The department has a strong track record with audit and advanced trainee registrar teaching, supervision of house surgeons, and medical student teaching. To be considered, you must have or be eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in a General Surgery vocational scope of practice.
