The Role
We are looking for someone to join our dedicated team as a General Surgeon with a colorectal subspecialty interest, where we will give you the opportunity to treat a varied caseload. Our robust clinician-led service provides a consultant led acute management and elective service to our community. Supporting our team in any of the above subspecialties will ensure that we continue to meet our contracted elective lists whilst we await the start of a new employee and cover a secondment. You will be joining a team of 5 other General Surgeons, and a 32 Specialists in the wider Surgical team, where you all participate in the general surgery call roster.

Our secondary Hospital proudly provides top-quality healthcare to a population of 105,000 in the lower South Island; this provides us with some unique challenges, but also ensures that there is an enormous scope for the variety in the work available to a talented professional like you. Being at the bottom of the country you would probably expect us to have a small, ancient facilities, but we are happy to brag that Southland Hospital, rebuilt in 2004, is a state-of-the-art facility that provides healthcare with the latest in PACS digital radiology, MRI, CT and iSOFT patient management system.
Applications are invited from registered Medical Practitioners who have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (holding a vocational registration) or equivalent, enabling locum tenens special purpose registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that from 1 November 2017 it will be the requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC.
