Napier City Council is seeking a passionate Community Engagement Librarian to lead innovative programmes and services, bringing the joy of learning, literacy, and social connection to our libraries and the wider community.
In this role, you'll design and deliver impactful services for children, young adults, and adults alike, focusing on everything from digital literacy to technology programming and adult literacy. You'll also play a vital role in building partnerships with community groups, organisations, and respected elders to identify and address unique challenges and opportunities for outreach.
Other responsibilities include:
Plan, organise, and deliver community programs with the Community Engagement Lead. Perform routine library tasks, including customer service. Promote digital literacy and library technology to all community sectors in Napier. Advocate for library services across the Napier community. Organise and lead pre-scheduled class or group library tours. Schedule regular visits to schools and education providers in Napier. Engage with community businesses and organisations to seek sponsorship for library programs. Share resources to support literacy and personal growth within the community. Collaborate with local and national organisations to offer key community services. Develop and deliver programs that align with the library's strategic goals. Build a strong understanding of library resources and how they support community engagement. Stay informed about trends and technologies affecting library services. Continuously seek professional growth through training and development. To be considered for the position you will have:
National Certificate Level 3 or equivalent experience 3 years' experience in community, outreach, or library programs Proven ability to build and maintain key relationships within the community Experience working with community groups Familiarity with the community and voluntary sector Self-motivated and able to handle pressure Cooperative, reliable team player who's adaptable and willing to go the extra mile This is a permanent full-time position, working 40 hours per week (across any 5 days of the 7).
