Beautification Trust – Manurewa, North Island
Opportunity to make a difference in the community and South Auckland schools
Are you an enthusiastic conservationist who cares deeply about climate action and empowering others with education? The Beautification Trust is seeking an experienced Community Educator to lead and deliver educational sessions, workshops, and events to South Auckland schools and the community. Working as part of the Community Team, you will integrate education into pest-free initiatives, waste minimisation, and environmental restoration projects.
This is a unique opportunity for someone looking for a permanent, full-time role to champion environmental and sustainable practices and inspire South Auckland communities to do the same.
About the role
We're looking for a confident and adaptable go-getter who can co-ordinate projects with groups of all ages. Your day-to-day responsibilities would be varied and include:
Creating and maintaining the Trust's engaging in-school environmental education programme focused on the South and East Auckland area.
Liaising with teachers and education partners to plan and deliver conservation and environmental workshops with schools and community groups.
Create programming designed to build pathways into meaningful careers for local rangatahi.
Creating and repurposing engaging education content for in-person education delivery.
Implementing educational content into core Trust programmes and initiatives.
Managing the bookings for the Trust's education venue (Creator Space).
Collaborating with the wider Community Team and key stakeholders to support the delivery of annual events like Eye on Nature school days, Wearable Arts, and Creative Arts.
Providing support in staffing Trust events and activities.
About you
As a treasured part of our team, you will be deeply passionate about creating positive experiences for people to feel love for the community and environment. You will bring the following knowledge, skills, and experience:
Experience and confidence with teaching children, adults, and rangatahi. An understanding of different learning styles and NZ Curriculum would be an advantage.
Capable of self-management.
Works best in a small supportive team.
Knowledge of conservation specific to Aotearoa (especially in urban spaces).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven organisational skills and computer literacy with Microsoft apps.
Effective problem solving and exceptional time management skills.
Full driver's license to use Trust's vehicles.
The successful candidate will be rewarded with:
A supportive, community-focused workplace with a fun, friendly team.
Learning and development opportunities.
Staff discounts at our Community Recycling Centre.
Free counselling and wellbeing services through our Employee Assistance Programme.
Free onsite parking.
Opportunities to support community projects and initiatives.
What's more, you'll be a part of a great workplace. The Beautification Trust is an accredited Living Wage employer and has been recognised as a finalist for the Employer of the Year, Community Contribution, Strategy and Innovation, and People's Choice in the 2 Degrees Auckland Business Awards 2023 (South and East Auckland).
