Chief Financial Officer

The Greater Wellington Regional Council operates in a dynamic and diverse environment. Its operations span highly commercial activities, such as public transport, through to environmental protection and regulation. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role is pivotal to supporting the investment and management of significant assets and services that impact the lives of all Wellingtonians.The CFO provides leadership, direction and assurance in the management of the Council’s finances, and development and delivery of financial strategy. You will ensure sound financial decision-making, robust long-term planning and effective financial risk management across the Council and wider group subsidiaries. You will be involved in large scale projects across the Council and its subsidiaries, particularly as the finance business owner of the ERP upgrade.While this critical role reports to the General Manager Corporate Services, it also works closely with the Chief Executive and other ELT members. It requires someone who is a highly skilled forward-looking leader, relationship manager and influencer, with a track record of using fresh strategic thinking that will enable the Council to deliver its strategic goals in an effective manner. You will be a confident presenter with good political and commercial nous. A CA qualification or similar is required.Experience in local government/a political environment is desirable, but not a pre-requisite.
