Led by the vision, "Antarctica and the Southern Ocean - valued, protected, understood", Antarctica New Zealand is the Crown entity responsible for developing, managing and executing New Zealand government activities in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. This includes accountability for Scott Base, the Antarctic research station which supports science in the Ross Sea region.Building on New Zealand's research in Antarctica over six decades, Antarctica New Zealand has a strong commitment to the natural environment, and is recognised as a leader in the international treaty system. Its core values reflect a high-performance organisation underpinned by a culture of shared beliefs.The Board (which is accountable to the Minister for Foreign Affairs) is now seeking a Chief Executive with prior experience in fostering cohesive organisational cultures that support collaboration. This will be supported by a track record of effective strategic and people leadership, and exposure to overseeing an organisation with complex health and safety requirements.A key priority for the incoming Chief Executive will be to achieve the completion of the new Scott Base Redevelopment plan, aimed at ensuring the resulting infrastructure can adapt to the changing needs of science, and the impacts of environmental and climate change over time.Key Responsibilities and Capabilities:A visible and engaged people leader, who is comfortable working within complex operating environments.Expertise in strategy development and execution, with the capacity to drive innovation and change within a scientific research-based organisation.A blend of political savvy and commercial acumen to work credibly with a wide range of local and international stakeholders.Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to front and manage media.Prior exposure in a CE role (or significant second-tier roles) with Board reporting experience.Affinity with the science and research sector is essential.This role is based at Antarctica New Zealand's corporate office in Christchurch and will require frequent travel.Confidential enquiries and applications should be directed to Vishnu Nair or Guy Brew at Ichor Leadership Search by 5.00pm on Friday 15 November 2024.
