Specialising in foundation excavations, demolition, retaining walls, civil construction and transport; we pride ourselves on our excellent customer service, positive company culture and ability to deliver practical construction solutions to a range of valued clients.An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Carpenter to join our Christchurch team. Reporting directly to the Site Foreman and Operations Manager you will lead a crew of Civil Hammerhands/ Labourers to construct formwork for concrete and prepare asphalt areas.The job involves:Leading a crew of civil hammerhands/labourers including assisting with site set up.Constructing timber boxing for driveways, carparks, paths, patios and stairs.Laying and tying reinforcing materials, such as mesh and steel.Ordering and selecting timber and materials for construction.Backfilling and compacting aggregate to levels with small tools and plant.General construction tasks e.g. hammering, fixing, shovelling, wheel barrowing, sweeping, lifting etc.Assisting concrete placers with concrete pours.Operating a range of hand and power tools to cut and fix building materials.Listening to instructions and taking direction from management.Completing timesheets and recording job specifics.The requirements:At least 3 years civil carpentry experience completing the above works.Have an understanding of the ground preparation involved with asphalt and concrete.Can read construction plans, set heights and run string lines.A current Class 1 license. Experience towing and backing a trailer would be an advantage.Must have own vehicle for transport to/ between sites.A current site safe passport or evidence of foundational health & safety training.Good organisation skills, including ability to accurately complete time sheets.Physical fitness, to be able to complete labour intensive tasks.Excellent communication skills and can follow instructions.Have a sense of pride in your work and a positive attitude.Committed to being at work on time and ready for the day.Can work well in a team, and unsupervised.Must be able to pass a drug test.Availability to complete weekend work (Saturdays).This is a great opportunity to grow your leadership skills on civil construction sites. The position is permanent, at least 40 hours a week (completed between Monday-Saturday), with a company that will support and develop your civil construction career.
