Board Member - Treasurer

Details of the offer

WHO WE ARE

ECPAT Child Alert Trust (ECPAT NZ) is a wide-reaching for-purpose organisation with a small team committed to creating a world where children in Aotearoa are free from all forms of sexual exploitation. We work with relevant sectors, government agencies, and communities to prevent children and young people being sexually exploited. Our multifaceted approach includes research, specialist trainings, campaigning, national and international advocacy, legal submissions, interviews, and educational resources.

ECPAT NZ's values of centring the rights of children, being mindful of every individual's dignity, and participating in and promoting fair and equitable relationships underpin our collaborative approach to ensuring the safety of every child in Aotearoa.

ROLE PURPOSE

The volunteer Board of Trustees are responsible for the governance of ECPAT NZ, which includes developing policies, financial and general accountability, and providing expertise, particularly in the areas of finance, advocacy, cultural responsiveness, marketing, research, and digital strategy to support the organisation. ECPAT NZ is currently seeking a Treasurer to ensure responsible financial stewardship and reporting.

The Treasurer works closely with the Director and Finances Officer to ensure ECPAT NZ's finances and financial processes are in order.

TIME COMMITMENTS

Approximately 4 hours per month. This includes:

Attend and actively participate in at least 75% of monthly Board meetings, including up to two kanohi-ki-te-kanohi (face to face) meetings per year – 3-5 hours held in Tamaki Makaurau, Auckland.

Support and advocate for ECPAT NZ, including by attending events every so often.

Attend new Board member orientation and training.

DUTIES

You will bring an understanding of, and experience with, good financial management and reporting practices, as well as an appreciation of the kind and level of financial information needed at a Board level to support decision making.

As a Board member, you will:

Understand, promote and advocate for the organisation's mission and strategy.

Be familiar with the organisation's programmes, policies, and operations.

Attend Board meetings and appropriate committee meetings.

Offer occasional operational support to the ECPAT NZ team in areas of expertise (financial and accounting).

Strictly adhere to conflict of interest policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD

The ECPAT NZ Board is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organisation. To that end it:

Strategises how ECPAT NZ will carry out its mission through long and short-term planning.
