Our Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences/Te Ara Hauora Putaiao (FHES) makes a critical contribution to addressing the health and wellbeing for people and planet. Te Tiriti o Waitangi is at the heart of what we do. The faculty is committed to enhancing student equity of outcomes across our programs and to lead the transformation of health professional education for the benefit of the health system and communities in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is AUT's largest faculty with 6000 EFTS and over 600 (FTE) deeply committed Faculty staff, who are focussed on strengthening and enhancing the student experience and contributing meaningful high-quality knowledge advance and research in Health and Environmental Sciences.

The faculty is seeking an innovative and visionary new Associate Dean Academic (ADA) to become a key member of the Faculty's Executive team. Expanding pedagogical practice to better integrate technology enhanced learning and blended and hybrid learning, this role requires a visionary leader with a passion for innovation and advancement. We expect cutting edge approaches that will take us to the next level. The role will also be responsible for ensuring that best practices are disseminated and shared both internally and externally to enhance the reputation of the FHES and AUT. The ADA will support the quality assurance of Faculty teaching and learning and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
Key focus areas include:
Lead with vision and innovation a team of five direct reports and a larger team of indirect reports.
Lead the development of innovative academic practices that advance personalised learning and the overall quality of our educational offer to students.
Lead the implementation of advances in learning technologies and digital and multimode practices in teaching and learning.
Uplift the academic capability and capacity of our academic community. Foster a positive culture of academic excellence by leading academic debate relating to research in teaching and learning and by establishing a program of staff development.
Work closely with numerous internal and external stakeholders including the Faculty Dean, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Pro-Vice Chancellor Learning & Teaching, other FHES Associate Deans, Heads of School and relevant professional bodies.
Active contribution to faculty, university and academic-related committees.

Along with your academic CV, please submit a) a cover letter explaining why this particular role (and AUT) is of interest, and b) a statement addressing how your experience aligns with the key selection criteria we're seeking below:
A strong research and scholarship record of sustained excellence and a recognised contribution to the academic field.
Disciplinary expertise within an existing area of our faculty. PhD or equivalent essential. Please also highlight your experience working successfully across other disciplines.
Extensive experience in Learning and Teaching preferably including a Learning and Teaching qualification.
Leadership of strategic developments in innovative student-centred teaching and assessment practices, and the use of teaching technologies in delivery. Please highlight successes with integration of technology-enhanced learning and how they might be adapted as tools in a higher education pedagogical environment.
Sound practical knowledge in the field of higher education pedagogy. Leadership experience acquired through relevant health or science arenas is desirable.
Direct staff management experience, with a track record of successful teamwork built around a coaching and consultative approach.
A champion for equity, with proven ability advancing outcomes for student groups underrepresented in science. Demonstrated experience enacting Te Tiriti o Waitangi in another University is highly desirable.

Further Information:
Start date: As soon as possible (to be agreed with the successful candidate)
Location: The role will be based at the Akoranga Campus on the North Shore of Auckland.
Term: The successful candidate will secure a permanent substantive academic appointment. They will be seconded for an initial three-year term to the role of Associate Dean Academic (with the option for renewal, by mutual agreement).
Salary: Commensurate with relevant experience and skills and aligned with the appropriate step in AUT's academic pay scales (Associate Professor $142,835 - $165,369; Professor: $156,354 - $201,425). In addition, a special responsibilities payment (pro-rata) will be made for the Associate Dean responsibilities.
