Auckland Council has an opportunity for 2x Assistant Project Managers to join the Waste Solutions team in fixed term (3 years) full-time roles .
We are looking for a dynamic and proactive Assistant Project Manager to join our team and play a key role in managing the Resource Recovery Network (RRN) capital development programme. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to significant upgrades and capital development of new Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) and Resource Recovery Parks (RRPs), helping to drive sustainability, reduce waste and develop a circular economy in Auckland.

You can expect to:
Project manage specific contracts/projects, as delegated by the Senior Project Engineer.
Engage with local social enterprises and contribute to site design in collaboration with the Senior Project Engineer and consultants.
Contract management for a range of consultants and contractors.
Manage and track project budgets, including processing contractor progress claims, updating purchase orders, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
Coordinate and oversee contractors on-site, ensuring work is completed using health and safety best practices, to agreed quality standards and project scope achieves fit-for-purpose outcomes.
Organise and manage project documentation, ensuring all contracts, reports, and progress updates are properly filed, tracked, and aligned with project goals.
Monitor and ensure compliance with resource consent conditions, health and safety regulations, and Auckland Council's policies and procedures.
Prepare and report progress to external stakeholders, including central government and other funding agencies such as the Ministry for the Environment.
We're seeking an organised, self-driven professional with exceptional multi-tasking abilities who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is passionate about sustainability. You will have a sharp eye for detail and can manage multiple projects simultaneously.
A natural communicator, who will build strong relationships with key stakeholders—including senior management, contractors, community groups, and other external partners—while driving projects to success. With proven project management experience and an agile mindset, you'll be adept at creating bespoke structures that meet evolving needs while maintaining a focus on sustainable solutions and Council's goal of zero waste by 2040.
We will be looking for:
A minimum of 3 years' experience in Construction, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, project management, or project delivery.
Tertiary qualification (certificate) in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, project management, or related discipline.
Experience of using project management tools and software.
Good understanding of project lifecycles, project planning, and underlying concepts.
Strong understanding of project management methodologies, proficiency in Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, and familiarity with government processes.
