About the role
Business hours are 8am - 4pm, 7 days a week. Please specify what days you would be available in your application.
Your enthusiasm and dedication will see you:
Ensure the appropriate care of all animals in the centre units.
Maximise adoptions for as many animals as possible using all available avenues.
Ensure the animal database is accurate and up to date at all times.
Assist with the co-ordination of all routine veterinary visits and preparation of animals for the same.
Assist other SPCA staff in matters of training and sharing of knowledge.
Ensure all animals at the centre have their welfare needs met.
Coordinate and work with volunteers and the canine/feline teams with an aim to improve animal pathways through the centre and volunteer experience.
Deal with enquiries regarding adoption of animals at the centre in person, via phone or website.
Monitor animal health, behaviour and administer medication.
Enhance opportunities for socialisation, enrichment and behaviour modification for the animals in the shelter.
Work with other departments to ensure the animal areas are functioning well and goals are being achieved.
What we need from you:
Practical animal-handling experience and knowledge, particularly canine experience, and experience in behaviour and basic care.
Applicable tertiary qualification e.g. animal care, behaviour or welfare.
Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to handle conflict situations and a friendly and positive attitude.
Previous experience working in a similar role.
A flexible approach to the hours of work and the ability to prioritise and effectively manage workloads.
Excellent data-entry & computer skills including Microsoft Office.
Demonstrate empathy and resilience.
Ability to work positively in a fast-paced environment and a love for working with both people and animals.
Active, physically able to cope with the rigor of the job.
Full, current New Zealand driver's licence.
A self-motivated team player, who is enthusiastic and passionate about animal welfare.
A quick thinker who is skilled at multi-tasking.
