About this role | Mo tenei turanga This is a permanent, part-time (0.5 FTE) position.
Based in the Christchurch Office.
As an Advisor on Deaf Children, you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by: Providing specialist support to babies and children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Providing professional support and guidance to schools, teachers and families and building the capacity of those who are best placed to support the learning of these babies and children.
Providing appropriate specialist intervention plans.
Working collaboratively with Audiology, Cochlear Implant Specialists, NZSL and Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education providers and other sector organisations as required.
Working as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child's needs are complex.
Salary range: $69,966 - $118,450 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver.
The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mohou ake To be successful in this role you will need: A Master of Special Education (Sensory Disabilities/Hearing Impairment) or a Diploma of Adviser on Deaf and Hearing-Impaired Children.
Knowledge and experience in language, communication and child development and in the educational and audiological management for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Experience in working within a collaborative, high performing AODC team.
Experience and knowledge of New Zealand Sign Language or a commitment to learning New Zealand Sign Language.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings.
The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Tai Runga (South) Group in the Ministry.
We ensure that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.
Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whanau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Maori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.
